Six Kalimas and their Meanings
The Six Kalimas are the basic beliefs of Muslims all around the world. They practice these beliefs and incorporate the basic principles in their lives. All the six Kalimas are verses of Quran.
1. First Kalima: Tayyab (Purity)
La ilaaha illal lahoo Muhammadur Rasool Ullah
English Translation: There is no God but Allah Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
2. Second Kalima: Shahadat ((Testimony)
Ashahado an laa ilaaha illal laho wahdahoo laa shareeka lahoo wa ash hado anna Mohammadan abdo hoo wa rasoolohoo
English Translation: I bear witness that no-one is worthy of worship but Allah, the One alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger
3. Third Kalima: Tamjeed (Glorification)
Subhanallahe wal hamdulillahe wa laa ilaha illal laho wallahooakbar. wala haola wala quwwata illa bilahil aliyil azeem
English Translation: Glory be to Allah and Praise to Allah, and there is no God but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. And there is no Might or Power except with Allah.
4. Fourth Kalima: Tauheed (Unity)

5. Fifth Kalima: Astaghfar (Penitence)

1
Prophet Muhammad *was born in Mecca in 571
A.D. He was from the generation of Prophet Abrahim*and Prophet Ismael *.His
family was recognized as Al-Quresh and his tribe was Bani Haashim.
Prophet Muhammad’s Father Abdullah* died
before his birth. His mother Amina* passed away a few years after he was born.
During these years he was also taken care by Haleema Saadia, a mid-wife.
Prophet Muhammad ‘s* grandfather
Abdul-Mutlib* was the Chieftain of the Tribe. He lived until Prophet Muhammad
turned 8 years old. After his death his uncle Abu Taalib* took his
responsibility.
Prophet Muhammad was a serious ,
responsible and a very decent kid. He could not get any formal education in his
childhood. He was not very fond of playing like other boys, or ,of wasting time
in idle talking. He, sometimes, used to take the sheep out to graze, just like
a sheppard boy.
When he grew up, he learnt many traditional
skills and sports, like horse-riding and archery etc.
Later. he started learning the Trade with
his uncle and took it as his profession .He became a very popular, not because
he belonged to a noble family, but because he was a very noble person, himself.
People started calling him “Sadiq” and “Ameen”, meaning The Truthful and Honest
or Trustworthy.
At
that time, Arabs were passing through a very dark age of Ignorance. They were
badly indulged in social evils , like dishonesty and immodesty. They only
wanted to have fun in life. They used to drink, gamble, steal, fight and kill,
a lot. The worst of it was that they used to kill their new-borne daughters, by
burying them alive. Their society had no respect for women at all. There was no
respect for neighbors, travellers or poor.
In short , there was no law in the country.
People used to worship many different gods and wanted to please their gods , by
different practices.
The family of Prophet Muhammad* used to
follow the religion of Prophet Abrahim* at that time.

Prophet Muhammad* continued working with
his Uncle. The nobility of his character earned a great popularity amongst his
people.
A very rich and noble widow, Khadija*
proposed Prophet Muhammad and he got married at the age of 25 years. His wife
was 15 years older than him, yet he had a great love and respect for her. She
was one of her best companion in his life. Allah blessed them with a daughter
named Fatima*.
Prophet Muhammad *used to meditate a lot.
He used to travel to a hill , with a cave called Hira, in the vicinity of
Mecca, to pray alone. He was 40 years old when Allah sent the Angel Gabriel *
to give him the Message of Islam. The Angel appeared in human form and told him
to READ/RECITE by saying the word IQRA
in Arabic. Prophet Muhammad *replied “I can’t read/recite”. Then the Angel
repeated his message by reciting a few verses from the Quran.
96:1 Read in the name of your Lord Who
created.
96:2 He created man from a clot.
96:3 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable,
96:4 Who taught (to write) with the pen
96:5 Taught man what he knew not.
Then the Angel mentioned his name and told him that he (Muhammad*) was a
Messenger of Allah!
When Prophet Muhammad*reached home , he was
trembling with fear and worries. His wife Khadija* calmed him down by reminding
him of his noble character, and assured him that God will never leave him alone
in his great responsibility.
Khadija * was the first women who became
Muslim. Amongst other people were Abu Bakr*
(Prophet’s friend and the first Caliph of Muslims) Ali* (Prophet’s child cousin , who later became the fourth
Caliph of Muslims) and Zaid*Prophet’ freed slave .
For some time the message of Islam was kept
secret by the command of Allah. During this period the message of Islam spread
in the neighborhood, only. Later Allah ordered Prophet Muhammad* to declare the
message of Islam to his people. Later more people joined in, like Umar* (the Second Caliph or the leader of Muslims), Usmaan* (the
Third Caliph of Muslims) Hamza* (Prophet*’s Uncle)
Most of the Arabs didn’t like the message
of believing in ONLY ONE GOD and started treating Muslims, badly, including our
Prophet* . During these early years Muslims faced the worst kind of cruelty by
their own people. They were tortured to death for saying “Ahad” meaning“ONE
GOD”. Even the women were not spared. The worst time they faced was the time of
boycott for about 3 years, during which many Muslims died from starvation,
including Prophet*’s beloved wife Khadija* and his Uncle Abu-Taalib*.

After 10 years of hard time in Mecca, Allah
commanded Muslims to migrate from their homeland, Mecca to Medina ,a welcoming
town where message of Islam was greeted with great honour.
Muslims established great examples of
brotherhood and harmony in Medina.
It was really sad that the Meccans did not
want to leave these Muslims alone. Meccans already had tried to kill the Prophet* as well, in Mecca.
They planned to battle him in Medina ,too.
It was only because of the ignorance of
Meccans, that many battles took place between Muslims and Meccans. Allah gave
permission to Muslim to DEFEND themselves, as it is the responsibility of every
Muslim to protect his/her honor, property and life. Otherwise, Muslims were
commanded to lead peaceful lives and spread the message of Islam to the world.
Finally Prophet Muhammad* who never stopped
praying for his people’s guidance, became successful to sign the TREATY OF
PEACE with Meccans. Muslims enjoyed a few years of Peace only as Meccans broke
the Treaty’s rules. Then Allah commanded the Prophet to return back to his
homeland.
There were about 10 thousand Muslims who
marched back, peacefully to Mecca, after 13 years, declaring ALLAHU AKBAR (God
is Great) and KALIMA ( There’s no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messager of
Allah).Muslims were especially,ordered
not to harm anyone, except who attack them. They were ordered to respect women,
children, elderly, plants and animals.
No
one could stop them! On reaching upon Mecca,
Prophet Muhammad* removed all the IDOLS from the Kaaba and asked a Black
slave Bilaal* to climb the roof of Kaaba and say AZAAN. This was the
announcement of the VICTORY OF ISLAM!
……………..The Prophet* pardoned everyone!
In his final address to Muslims he reminded
them of great values, for example…
“All mankind is from Adam and
Eve. An Arab has no superiority over a
non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; white has no
superiority over black, nor does a black have any superiority over white; [none
have superiority over another] except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every
Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which
belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to your selves.
Remember, one day you will appear before God and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of
righteousness after I am gone.”
He lived for 63 years. Allah completed and
perfected the Religion of Islam by Prophet Muhammad.(5:3) He was the last of
the Messengers and a Message of Mercy to
the World.
21:107 And We
